AURA Block Production

Deterministic 1-second slots with round-robin validator selection. Predictable block production.

Block Time: 1s
Selection: Round-robin
Session: 900 blocks

AlephBFT Finality

Byzantine fault-tolerant agreement runs alongside block production. A finalised block does not revert.

Median: 1.00s
95th percentile: 1.37s
Slowest in sample: 6.4s
Fault tolerance: under 1/3 of stake
Weight-Based Execution

Block Weight Allocation

Each 1-second block carries a fixed weight budget. Transactions consume weight in proportion to the work they do, so the block limit is a measure of execution, not a gas constant.

Execution Phases
Normal: 75% capacity
Operational: 15% capacity
Mandatory: 10% capacity
Weight Distribution
Balance transfer: fixed
Contract call: metered
Block limit: weight, not gas

Dynamic Fee Adjustment

pallet-dynamic-evm-base-fee is meant to move the base fee with demand. The weight factor is unset, so the computed fee resolves to zero and clamps to the floor every block. In place, inert.

Minimum base fee: 0.1 gwei
Default base fee: 10 gwei
Observed on mainnet: 0.1 gwei
Validator Roadmap

Phase 1: Mainnet (Current)

Active

4 validators, all operated by the core team. One party can halt or upgrade the chain today.

Status: Producing blocks since 2022

Phase 2: Reserved Validator Set

Planned

20 validators by the end of 2027, invited from partners and infrastructure providers.

Requirements: Hardware, KYC, stake deposit

Phase 3: Open Validator Set

Future

50 or more validators by the end of 2027, opening to permissionless participation.

Target: Permissionless participation
Execution Environment

EVM Compatibility

Deploy Solidity with Hardhat, Remix or Foundry. MetaMask and Web3.js connect against chain 1961.

Weight metering changes gas estimation

WASM Runtime

ink! 5 compiles to WASM and runs through pallet-contracts, against the same state as the EVM.
